Advertising your Direct Sales Business Online: Great Newsletter Ad
Ideas
Advertising in a
newsletter can be a great way to gain exposure for your home
business or product. However most ads posted are boring, and often
the reader will “skip over” reading an ad and simply continue on
reading the newsletter. Here are some ideas for being creative and
getting attention for your Direct Sales Business advertising.
It’s All About The Headline
Sadly, in the world of advertising, a book is judged by its cover.
No one will ever know how great your product is if they don’t read
the ad, and they won’t read the ad if the headline doesn’t catch
their eye. As a matter of fact, catching their eye isn’t enough, you
have to catch their eye and hold their interest until they finish
reading.
While some headlines are
a little weird (I saw a candle company ad that said “Stick Your Nose
In My Business” – catchy, and I had to read they ad to see exactly
what they were talking about!) and you certainly don’t want to be
misleading.
Think about a headline
in a newspaper. You want to grab attention. Don’t think about the
product for headlines, think about the benefit. So instead of “The
Best Wrinkle Cream Ever” think “Look Younger Now” – it’s not about
the product, its about the benefit.
If you really, really absolutely can’t get away from your product,
take the McDonald’s approach. They didn’t advertise a “Huge Greasy
Hamburger”, they advertised “two all beef patties, special sauce,
lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun”. Somehow, the
second way just seems better, and made a great little jingle!
Think Outside the Text
Banner, Buttons and Text aren’t the only ways to go when you are
newsletter advertising. Contact the newsletter owner and see how
“flexible” they are with their advertising. You may be able to offer
“stationary” for the background of their newsletter instead of a
traditional ad. For example, how about a large image of your
signature product in the background with a small “This newsletter
proudly sponsored by your direct sales company name” and make that
clickable to your website.
Or simply a foreground
photo of your product with a clickable link. Short, sweet, and to
the point, and yet not overdone to the point where the reader simply
glides over it.
You can also offer a drawing for a free product. Simply have the
newsletter reader click to sign up. You can also request the reader
to give you an “answer” to be entered such as “what was the last
word in the third paragraph of the newsletter” and choose a winner
from the correct entrants.
This will not only
benefit your business, as you will be able to receive names of
qualified leads, but also the newsletter writer as this little
“contest” helps ensure that her readers read a bit more carefully.
The key is to think creatively. Read several newsletters and see
which ads you read and why, and which ones you skip and why. But to
stand out from the crowd, you need to be willing to take a few risks
and try something new and creative. The best ad in the world won’t
help your direct sales business if no one ever reads it!
